Transport from OUTSIDE the EU

Please note that any advice and recommendations below are for guidance only. We are more than happy to assist but please seek advice from shipping professionals.

Please also note that our main concern is to receive your artwork and the guidance is to give you options, not to constrain you. Therefore, if you are able to send us the work in any way that arrives DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) or without payable duties we will happily receive the work.

Option 1: Travel with the artwork and deliver personally to Chianciano Terme by the 30th July

  • If you are able to physically attend the Biennale, or just happen to be passing by before the 30th of July, a cost-effective and easy option is simply to travel with the artwork and deliver your artwork personally or through a friend.

Please deliver your artwork to the following address:

Arts Club Chianciano
Via della Valle, 46
53042 Chianciano Terme SI
Italy
Tel: +39057860732

Option 2: Send your work with a ATA Carnet (for high value artworks) by the 22nd July

ATA Carnet lets you to avoid customs and temporarily export artworks to Italy.

You will need to ask the relevant body in your nation of origin (usually the Chamber of Commerce) to organise an ATA Carnet for your shipment.

The artworks must arrive no later than the 22nd July but please send as soon as possible.

Once you have the ATA Carnet, it just needs to travel with your shipment via your chosen transportation company to the following address:

Arts Club Chianciano
Via della Valle, 46
53042 Chianciano Terme SI
Italy
Contact name: Marie Gagliardi +39 0578 60732 (please do not call this number – this telephone number is for your shipper only).
[email protected]

Option 3: Simply send your work with with a courier (e.g. send with FedEx) by the 22nd July

  • PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR NATIONAL POSTAL SERVICES as the artwork may not arrive and clearance is a nightmare – use a courier instead.
  • When sending to the EU from a non-EU country, couriers like FEDEX will usually ask you to supply an invoice to accompany the shipment with a shipment description and value for customs (please use our template invoice below).
  • All shipments must be sent with the clear instruction : DDP – Delivered Duty Paid
  • Make sure you have an account with your shipping company or authorise them to pay for any charges on your credit card (a hold up with an unpaid fee may result in the artwork being delayed or simply being returned to sender).
  • The artworks must arrive no later than the 22nd of July but please send as soon as possible.

Our Template Invoice for you to use

  • Please use our invoice template (replace red text to personalise your invoice)
  • There are no tariffs on art imports in the EU but you may have to pay 10% VAT on your declared artwork value
  • As you are the creator of the artwork, you are able to declare the value your artwork as low or as high as you like – therefore you can essentially choose your import liability. Please choose wisely. Zero value is not allowed and any value above €40 is liable for tax.
  • In relation to the sales price of your artwork, do not worry, we will subsequently request an updated sales price and this does not need to have any relation to the import value.
  • IMPORTANT: Email us your draft customs invoice for approval before you book shipping so we can check it – [email protected]
  • VERY IMPORTANT: All shipments must be sent with the clear instruction: “DDP – Delivered Duty Paid” or we may have to refuse the shipment
